Tasty Morsels #6 – Ethiopian
I must say, I never quite tried Ethiopian cuisine and it was an interesting experience. We ordered an appetizer of Ethiopian style fried potatoes (i.e. potato chips) which were pretty darn awesome. Then we got a Veggie combo, meat combo and a raw meat thingy. They agreed that the raw meat was rather tasty. I don’t know. I’m not that carnivorous.
It worked out cheap though. We were all stuffed for $11 each. That’s after a 20% discount courtesy of the “Guide to the Good Life in Berkeley”.
Menu
Ethiopian potatoes
The main course
Cafe Colucci. 6427 Telegraph Ave. Oakland. CA.

I tossed some left over chicken and rice into a pot of boiling water with sweet potato. It turned out surprisingly tasty. I knew the Japanese rice seasoning I bought from 一番館 would come in useful some day.
President’s Day weekend – a perfect time for a luxurious brunch at a Singaporean restaurant a short drive away.

Kopi
Pretty good. I don’t usually take coffee. This is worth the caffeine doping.

Carrot Cake
We ordered the black one. It was pretty decent. There seems to be some inconsistency with each plate though.

Prata~
This is one good prata. There were spring onions in it.

Kaya Toast
Kaya toast was so-so. I have a certain preference for a particular type of kaya. =)
Overall, I’d say it’s a decent restaurant. I heard that the Chicken rice is like the best thing there but didn’t try it. Prices are in general a bit steeper than normal but beggars can’t be choosers huh?
Kopitiam Restaurant 3647 Mt Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, CA 94549, USA
I had a rather nice dinner with my flatmates (after a long while, haha).
Pacific Salmon stuffed with Crab
Pretty decent I’d say, but a tad too expensive. I wouldn’t be paying that again in a hurry.
This one is a little blur.
(repeat: I need a better camera)
I later found out that the Happy Hour there has really good deals and that is when I really should be going, not paying full price.
The service was excellent though. =)
Arancini Gremolata (I think)
In English – fried risotto balls with Fontina cheese and saffron.
In French – It tastes like a fondue!
Potato, pancetta, fontina and rosemary pizza
I love the almost burnt bits of the crust.
Panna cotta and a slice of cake with Burnt caramel ice cream.
It really does taste as good as it sounds.
Pity about the pictures.
Poor lighting, despite my best efforts (Note the candle)
I need to get a better camera.
Apparently they change their menus almost everyday.
I must find another excuse to go again. =)

Nothing, I repeat, Nothing beats the taste of Made in Japan snacks. Pocky, Collon .. the Made in Japan ones just taste better. I must say, despite being a Collon fan, I’ve never had Collon that tasted so good. The hint of vanilla in the cream, the crunchiness of the biscuit…
ふわふわクリームのコロンとても美味しいですね!!
In other news, it just hailed for all of 5 mins in Berkeley.
