Fourth Street

It was like stumbling upon a hidden treasure cove. I had no clue there was such an arty place in Berkeley. And it was all because I heard of a spectacular brunch place there.

Bette’s Oceanview Diner

I had the Lox scramble. Soft scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, a toasted bagel and home fries (essentially fried potatoes with onions). The bagel was toasted to perfection, just a little crisp around the edges. I thought the potatoes were a tad overdone though.

The German potato pancakes. Rosti. Yum. I stole a bite – fried just right. Crispy on the edges, soft in the center.

Lemon ricotta pancakes. I must say, these were the best out of the three. The pancake just melts in your mouth. A.w.e.s.o.m.e.

The service was pretty good, considering how busy it was. We had a 20min wait during which we just strolled up and down 4th Street.

And then it was to Sketch for ice-cream.

It was tasty, but rather expensive. $4 for a single serving. Hm. And I thought there couldn’t possibly be anything more expensive than Ici. The cone was really crunchy though. I think I’ll save this for rare treats.

It’s right next to Bette’s. We walked up and down twice before finally spotting it.

Happy people.

Ohgane Korean BBQ – Tasty Morsels #7

Friday – 7 March.
Tasty Morsels #7
This must be the best Tasty Morsels yet. Why didn’t I discover this earlier? Super duper damn awesome Korean BBQ. The BBQ dishes were really good. In order of ranking by consensus,
  1. Spicy BBQ pork
  2. BBQ short ribs
  3. Spicy BBQ chicken
  4. BBQ beef
  5. Fried Fish
We also had an appetiser of Hae mul pa jun (Large pancake with green onions) which we later discovered, had bits of seafood in it. Yum~
It was a tad expensive, with the bill coming up to about $21-23 per person.
A good place to go for a rare treat.

Soy Latte

Jittery and jumpy. Trembling hands. Over-caffeinated. One Soy Latte.
Tell me, why do I do this to myself?

It’s a most random thing to be practicing Japanese in a corner of a cafe and have the (white) guy at the next table start speaking Japanese to you.
